Building ALEYE With the San Diego Community
New beta devices, haptic improvements, and what we learned from San Diego Center for the Blind and the National Federation of the Blind San Diego
Hello Everyone!
Our mission is to make nonverbal communication universally accessible. ALEYE detects facial expressions, emotions, gestures, and body language in real time and translates them into precise haptic patterns so you can stay present at school, at work, and in everyday life. With that being said we are excited to share that our next group of ALEYE devices is fast approaching beta testing, and we will have units out this month.
Here are a few updates from the build side
We have been refining our haptic patterns so that each cue feels more distinct and easier to learn.
We are constantly improving the wristband so it is more comfortable and have recently just partnered with a group of industrial designers from Tesla and Rivian to improve form and function.
This week we got to spend time with the San Diego Center for the Blind and it was a powerful reminder of why we are building this in the first place.
We heard a few recurring themes
People want tools that support independence without getting in the way of the technology they already use. This is why we have been building ALEYE to be camera or smart glasses agnostic and hope to integrate in any existing tech you already have.
Social context matters in the workplace, school, or with friends and family. Several people talked about wanting more certainty in group settings, classes, and casual conversations.
Comfort is essential. We want wearing ALEYE to be a world class experience so comfort and fashion are at the top of the totem pole.
We are grateful to the staff and community at San Diego Center for the Blind for opening their doors and giving us honest feedback.
We also had the chance to spend time with members of the National Federation of the Blind San Diego.
This session felt like a mix of demo, listening session, and thoughtful questions, which is exactly what we hoped for. We tested our haptic patterns one last time before we send them out to all of our amazing tester! Check out there post on Facebook here!
