Behind the Scenes at HapWare
Designing Accessibility That Works in Real Life
At HapWare, we spend a lot of time thinking about how technology feels in the real world. Accessibility is about creating tools people actually want to use every day. That is why so much of our process happens behind the scenes, long before a device ever reaches someone’s wrist.
Listening First
Every step starts with listening. Our design choices are guided by conversations with people who are blind or have low vision. What feels useful? What feels frustrating? What does not exist today that should? These insights are not “nice to have.” They are the foundation of HapWare.
Prototyping and Iterating
From there, our team builds and tests. We prototype, get feedback, make changes, and do it all over again. Sometimes what seems like a small tweak, such as the placement of a motor or the strength of a vibration pattern, makes a huge difference in usability.
Collaboration in Action
A big part of our process happens in collaboration with our testers and advisors. The people who try HapWare early are not just users. They are co-creators who help us refine ideas and spot gaps that a design team alone might overlook. Their input helps us understand how the technology fits into daily routines, how comfortable it feels to wear, and how natural the interactions are in real-world settings. This back-and-forth is what turns a prototype into something practical.

Capturing the Story
Recently, we did a photoshoot to share a glimpse of this journey. It was not just about getting nice pictures (though we are excited to show them off). It was about capturing the spirit of our work: independence, confidence, and everyday usability. Behind every photo is a story of testing, refining, and reimagining what accessibility can look like.
Your Voice Matters
We know that HapWare is just one piece of a bigger picture. Many people already use AI-powered tools every day, whether it is smart glasses, voice assistants, or apps on their phones. We would love to hear from you.
What AI tools or devices do you currently use?
What features work well for you?
What limitations do you run into?
Your feedback helps shape not only our work but also the future of accessibility innovation as a whole. Please email us at [email protected] with your thoughts.
Looking Ahead
We are proud of where HapWare is today, but even more excited about where it is going. Accessibility innovation does not happen alone. It happens in partnership with the community. That is why we will keep listening, testing, and iterating until assistive tech feels as seamless and natural as any other wearable.
Thank you for being part of this journey with us.
